Cast of Characters
The Apollo astronauts drove “AstroVettes” loaded with big block engines and a 4 speed Muncie similar to this one. This same powerful Corvette 454 big block engines were drafted into the U.S. Air force to start up the Sr-71 Blackbird mach 3 jets for a good reason.
The name Astro Ventilation is etched into the window glass.
During the 60's space race GM coined the term "Astro Ventilation". This system let fresh air constantly move through the cabin. Another nod to the classic aerospace era muscle cars reaching for the stars.
The third owner Ray Wolffe is the CEO, Inventor, and Owner of a major Hollywood lighting company. Partnering with Universal Studios, Ray brought to market an entire line of LED lighting systems used on motion pictures and television productions worldwide. Ray acquired the car in 2013 and commissioned a two year long passion project restoration costing over $100,000 in refurbishment in 2014 at at 106,000 miles. The car shows 2400 miles since the refurbishment and has been conserved and kept as a garage queen. The car was manufactured in 1971 in Saint Louis and was reportedly purchased by the second owner in Duluth Minnesota in 1978.
1969 to 1972 are at the top end of the C-3 Corvette values right now. It’s an immaculate and well-presented example of a chrome-bumper, big-block C3 in a stunning color with no known issues. An important matter is the body style. The chrome bumper C-3 is continuing to increase in value. The 1971 models are the next-to-last of the “chrome bumper” Sharks, and as such hold a strong styling edge over the following years with the plastic bumper Corvettes.
